yes George was a fine fellow. he did, indeed, invent pnut butter. but i find it hard to believe that his legacy surpasses that of the hardy boys. i am begining to feel suspicious of these polls…
Actually, I believe you are thinking of George Washington Carver (January 1864 – January 5, 1943), who was an American scientist, botanist, educator and inventor. The exact day and year of his birth are unknown; he is believed to have been born before slavery was abolished in Missouri in January 1864.

Indeed, George Washington Carver was a great American, and probably should have been included in the original poll question.
